You could say I'm in a funk. Yeah, that's what we'll call it.
I'm stuck in this contemplative state, wondering what words I can put on a page that really matter.
It's hard to admit because being in this sort of negative airspace isn't exactly the sunshine and peaches everyone dreams of writing about and feeling and it's certainly not what readers come for. Negativity es no bueno. (I don't really know Spanish - I took 8 years of French) I guess there's this sort of feeling on the Internet that no one ever has a bad day, let alone a bad month.
But alas! I've had a bad month. Or two.
I can't write. I can't take a great photo. I can't sleep. I can't go a day without crying.
It's not good.
But I am done now. I think. I hope. I'd like to pull myself out of the funk.
In the meantime, let's eat some guacamole. Drink some Mexican beers (Negra Modelo is my favorite). Eat more chips than is acceptable. Buy some queso fresco or cojita cheese at the market. And please don't forget the tequila.
Quick & Easy Guacamole
Makes a cereal bowl full of guacamole. -Guacamole is really versatile. You can add more or less or whatever it is you like. I like lots of cilantro and I love the oniony and garlicky parts, but if you'd prefer no raw garlic, omit it. If you want to add lime juice (I didn't have any), go right ahead. You can add just about anything!
1 ripe avocado
1/2 a roma tomato, diced
enough cilantro (I probably used 10 stems)
1/2 a medium shallot, minced
1 garlic clove, minced
kosher salt to taste
Chop your tomato, shallot and garlic. Throw in a bowl. Tear the leaves of some cilantro. Scoop your avocado out of its shell and smash in the bowl with a fork (this should be really easy with a ripe avocado). Season with kosher salt to your tastes.
