Hey everyone, hope your Thanksgiving was lovely! I just spent mine with my little family of 4 at home. I made it easy on myself and didn't plan any extravagant cooking.. roasted a turkey, made a few quick and delicious sides, bought rolls at the bakery.. it was perfect! The tryptophan really got to me this year though.. I was snoozing in my big, cozy and favorite chair soon after we ate. We just hung out together as a family, watched football, played outside and cuddled all day.
And now, Black Friday is upon us. I will be hibernating all weekend and avoiding the crowds, but I know that's not true for all. So I put together this little list of some really great foodie books I've come across lately. There's a little something for everyone here. For me, there are 2 criteria for a cookbook I want to own.. 1. really great photos and 2. really great stories.. One of them has to be there and if I can get both, yes! Some of these are a little more on the wordy side and some more of the photographic, but they are all so fantastic at what they are.
1. Small Plates & Sweet Treats // Aran Goyoaga // A gluten-free cookbook filled with some of the most intriguing and beautiful dishes. Photography is delicate, bright and adorable.
2. My Father's Daughter // Gwyneth Paltrow // I'm sure you're all familiar with Gwyneth's acting, but she's also an avid foodie and this book deserves more than a look. The stories of her family are detailed and passionate.
3. Edible Selby // Todd Selby // Photographer Selby gives focus to some of the best in the culinary industry, following them into their homes, gardens, kitchens and restaurants. Includes hand-written interviews and illustrations as well as recipes from the contributors.
4. Dinner: A Love Story // Jenny Rosenstrach // The famous blog comes to the pages! This book is filled to the brim with stories about how to get dinner on the table 5 days a week. But it's not guilt-ridden and definitely not filled with fancy ingredients. The stories suck you in and the endearing photographs and dinner diary make your heart pitter-patter with the desire to do the same.
5. Martha's American Food // Martha Stewart // This is truly a food bible, filled with well-researched recipes from all the regions of the United States. Each recipe comes with a story about its beginnings and talks about the ingredients and where they come from. Basic recipes with a twist.
6. The Homemade Pantry // Alana Chernila // This is really the basics. Make your own anything! Yogurt, poptarts, sauces, cereals, butter, condiments, spices and the list goes on! She tells stories about how she came to learn to make her own and includes all the detail you need to make these recipes. Best of all, she doesn't preach and lets you know that she doesn't make every single recipe every single week. Refreshing!
